Masters in Ceramics

When I began my masters in ceramics at Farnham University, I was encouraged to have a go at altering my thrown vessels. This led to a lot of fun exploring different ways of changing their forms. Since then, I have become engaged with ways of trying to express grief through sudden and unusual damage/alteration/change/violation to my pots. Through the work I am trying to refine how the physical change to the pot can act as a metaphor for an emotional experience.

Blue dish with a bite

Thrown stoneware. Here the damage is subtle but defining. It is a piece that can be used both decoratively and domestically. It is oven, microwave and dishwasher safe.

"Dented"

Slip cast earthenware vessel which has been altered by the throw of a ball. It can be used for decorative use or practically holding dry objects, not liquid as cracks were created from the impact of the ball.

Altered Vessel NFS

Thrown stoneware. This vessel has had both the rim altered as well as deep, harsh grooves on the outside. On its inside there are some deep holes of damage too.

I like the way the grooves are being bent with the alteration of the vessel.

Thrown earthenware. This large vessel has had its rim altered in an abrupt and powerful manner. The torn rim is prominent in an otherwise perfect vessel. Like a bite, a tear - something broken.
